Ulmo’s music is dark, groovy, and subtly disruptive, bending expectations and blurring boundaries between pseudo-genres like “loose” dubstep and experimental techno. It is, per definition, “future bass”: forward-thinking, bass-driven dance music that draws its greatest inspiration from the unknown. He cites Dual Shaman, Liar and his now-defunct Tessier Ashpool label as primary stylistic influences; musically Ulmo can be compared to artists like Mutual Friend, Specialivery, VLSONN, Untold, Rabit, and lately Wen. A skilled DJ and curator on the decks, Ulmo represented the fledgling collective Fringeworthy (on which he also debuted the alias with the Pieces of Loathe EP) alongside Rabit, Gila, and Trisicloplox at The Black Box in Denver in 2018.
